South Korean authorities are on high alert after creatures that resemble eerie larvae have been found in water in Seoul and other nearby areas.

Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun on Monday issued an emergency instruction for an inspection of all water purification plants to be carried out. The authorities have reportedly received nearly 600 complaints.

Experts, meanwhile, said the worms are unlikely to cause major health problems if consumed.
